Library TLE Distance Learning
Hello Tahoe Lake Cubs,
Welcome to distance learning at TLE Library. Each week, I will be posting read-aloud storytime for K-2nd and 3rd-4th by Weds.
For 3rd-4th, we will be continuing word of the week. The word of the week is pentagon: a noun, a plane figure with five straight sides and five angles, (from the Greek root penta meaning five). Related words: pentameter, pentagram, pentathalon.
Our AR contest will continue in a different format. Please continue taking AR tests for each book read via Clever. If you take at least one AR test and score above 80% for every week of distance learning, you will win a special prize from the Library when we return to school. I will be able to follow your results in Renaissance Learning.
March is Women's History Month.

Quote of the week: "Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less." Marie Curie
We will continue our reading of California Young Reader Medal Nominees' books. For more information about these award winners, please follow this link: http://www.californiayoungreadermedal.org/nominees
I look forward to hearing from you at any time. Mrs. Gramanz, agramanz@ttusd.org

Dr. Seuss's Birthday
Today, March 2, 2020 Students are celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday by reading and listening to Dr. Seuss stories all day long.
My favorite fun fact about Dr. Seuss: "He kept a closet full of wacky hats. Whenever he was stumped writing, he'd put on a suitable hat to help the words flow." Source: Parents Magazine & Imagine That! How Dr. Seuss Wrote the Cat in the Hat by Judy Sierra
We have passed the 100th Day of school which we celebrated at Tahoe Lake on February 12th. This was also Family Reading Night. Thank you to TLE PTO for sponsoring this event and a big shout out to all students and family members who were able to attend. Thank you also to all our staff here at Tahoe Lake who read books and wore costumes. Our special thanks to the Man in the Yellow Hat, our Superintendent, Dr. Leri!
And finally, a big thank you to Julie Basile for all her hard work for many years as TLE's Chairperson of the Scholastic Book Fair. Julie will be moving up to North Tahoe Middle School next year. We will miss her, but we welcome Stephanie Salke who will be taking over her role. In addition we want to thank all the parent helpers who worked many hours to run the fair. Our fair netted around $3,000 worth of Scholastic dollars which will be used to purchase books for the Library, teacher classrooms and as reading prizes.

Happy New Year! Most TLE Students Were Welcomed Back to School with the Book, The Magician's Hat, by New England Patriot's Former Player, Malcolm Mitchell
The first week of 2019, all 1st-4th Graders listened to the story, The Magician's Hat, by New England Patriot's former football player, Malcolm Mitchell. Malcolm discovered his love of reading during college by joining a book club. He currently promotes children's literacy with his website and book contests. Some classes at Tahoe Lake are currently participating in a Super Bowl themed reading contest, Readbowl '19. Please click on the following links for more information about his story and his literacy projects.
